"Voyage of the Damned" is one of my favourite Frasier episodes, partly
because of its sleazy one-hit lounge singer Carlos 'The Barracuda' Del
Gato. He hands out a red rose at each show to a female in the audience
he calls his "especial lady", who's obviously earmarked for more to
come after the show. Latin-American actor Miguel Perez played the role
to its comic hilt, and he responded warmly when I e-mailed him about
The Barracuda's success. I've seen him since in feature films, and
last night he showed up again in a rerun of an episode of Seinfeld,
"The Cheever Letters". He was playing Luis, a Cuban Embassy staffer
who dealt Cuban Cigars to Cosmo Kramer in return for his jacket. He
became friends with Luis and his gang and they even became golf
partners in Westchester County. The Barracude isn't the only Frasier-
Seinfeld crossover character. The most famous is Jane Leeves as The
Virgin, who eventually loses her maidenhood to John F. Kennedy Junior!
