The premise.
Nobody cares about Saturday Night Live.
Nobody cares about knockoffs of SNL.
Nobody cares about how shows like SNL are produced.
Studio 60 would have been more interesting if the show-within-a-show
were a type of show that intrigues more viewers: I would be much more
interested in the backroom dealings of how a reality show like Survivor
is produced, for example. (CBS's chief medic on Survivor has just been
arrested and charged for possession and use of cocaine--did he give
cocaine to contestants to keep them going despite the lack of food for
which Survivor is famous? That would be interesting stuff for a Studio
60 type show to explore.)
