Thoughts about Monica

For context, I'm a recovering alcoholic (22 years tomorrow) so I know
how hard it is not to drink.  But I find it odd the writers chose to
have Monica abuse alcohol when her sons were destroyed by driving drunk
(AJ's accident with Jason).  And why they would have her actually get
behind the wheel and drive drunk.  Alcohol is messy and smelly.  Someone
should have smelled alcohol on her at the hospital by now - even vodka
which people think (mistakenly) doesn't have an odor.  She's a doctor -
why not prescription pills?  Of course, that was done by Alan.  I just
think it was wrong-headed of the writers to take that particular tack.
