If I remember correctly, Alan Q was unable to bond with or even accept AJ 
because of his original paternity.  AJ was originally believed to be Rick 
Weber's son and reminded Alan of Monica's infidelity.  Whereas Monica came

to accept Jason as her own son, despite Alan's infidelity.  As AJ matured,

he became an alcoholic and an overall disappointment to all Qs.
