Kate was the one saying to Sonny that she'd made mistakes in the past,
so it wouldn't be right for her to hold Michael responsible for his
"mistake." The "mistake" was in dropping the gun (the one he shouldn't
have had in the first place) while trying to (illegally) dispose of it
so that it (unintentionally) fired and (totally by accident) hit
someone. But running off leaving her bleeding was a deliberate choice
-- and one that both Sonny and Kate should be taking Michael to task
for.

As a step-parent, I've learned that the kid's parents get to make those
decisions and you get no say. Unless you happen to be the parent on
hand when the kid does something truly egregious and correct him/her on
the spot. Then you STILL have to defend your decision and your
rationale for making it.

As a step-parent, Jax is in a very tough position. But he still has to
respect the biological parents and their decisions.

And as for Kate -- hit and run isn't a joke. The rationale she used
for not stopping ("I was in a hurry, and besides I have handbags worth
more than that car") was especially offensive to me. People whose cars
are worth less than her handbags NEED those cars to get to work, to the
grocery store, to take their kids to school and likely don't have the
spare cash to repair them because some rich snob couldn't be bothered
to either pay attention to her driving or to take the time to take
responsibility for her damage.

Which is a pretty realistic view of step-parenting. Although since
Kate is such a special friend of his, you'd think he'd have a vested
interest in Michael apologizing to her!

If the kid is grounded, he ought to be GROUNDED. Seems like a pretty
mild punishment for buying an illegal gun and being responsible for
shooting someone, whether intentionally or not. Seems like a REALLY
mild punishment for going off and leaving her bleeding.

Michael being shot IS in a lot of ways, Sonny's fault. The kid is 13
-- Sonny could have been trying very hard to become just a coffee
im****ter since he agreed to become the kid's father.
