It took years and YEARS for Lucy Coe to turn into a sympathetic
character. It started about the time she divorced Alan and moved out
of the Quartermaine mansion and into her little apartment above the
Outback. AJ and Jason were helping her move and someone -- I don't
remember who -- took a swipe at Lucy. Jason told them off, saying "I
get so sick of everyone picking on Lucy" (or something to that effect)
"she's got a good heart." But it took years before the other
characters stopped taking swipes at Lucy, and even when she moved to
****t Charles it continued. All her character growth disappeared almost
overnight when TPTB decided they wanted to prop up Eve's character and
turn HER into a heroine.
Thanks for reminding me of Lucy -- she was one of my all-time favorite
soap opera characters, and even my husband (who went to college with
her -- or at the same place and time she did) loved her. He'd hear her
voice and come a-running from whatever room of the house he was in to
see what outrageous costume Lucy was wearing that particular day.
Anyone remember the scene where she was sliding on some plastic roll-up
thing wearing just a little negligee? He does!
