My understanding is that the tour used to a stunning, exciting,
experience where guests could see live filming, rehearsals and visit
a
studio department of choice that is longer true. Now the tour has a
formal route with mandatory stops at cheesy prefabricated exhibits
instead of working departments.
Here are some recent reviews from trip advisor, one review has a large
section dealing with disappointed Gilmore fans.
I really have a lot of problems with this tour. The false and
misleading advertising, according to the WB website
http://www2.warnerbros.com/vipstudiotour/
"the WB tour is the best
kept secret in Hollywood and every day is different, you might see
your favorite star or actual filming of that favorite TV show or
film." The press release section advertises a series of photos showing
tour carts in the midst of filming and states: "CAMERAS ROLLING,
guests are surrounded by actual filming and production of today's
hottest movies and television shows or ready for their close up-
guests have even been cast as movie extras in film and TV
productions." The family are Gilmore Girls fans and on the website
lists a number current TV shows, including Gilmore, it states: "Now
Filming Gilmore Girls." All this implying that you will be part of a
real working studio actually watching and perhaps participating in
actual film production, plus meet or at least see your favorite TV
star.
We did not get to see any live filming or action and were told
deliberately that we could not film or photo or meet anyone once we
got on the tour cart. Not only did WB lure us in with false
advertising about seeing filming but they had cancelled the Gilmore
Girls show and taken down all the sets as well. When we brought all
this up to the manager she claimed that WB site states that
photography is limited and no video filming. This absolutely
contradicts what the site implies in both writing and the site photos,
this is extremely misleading. WE also asked what happened to the live
filming, set rehearsals and other perks of seeing a working studio in
action. The manager claimed, "everyone was on hiatus or vacation and
no TV filming was under way, a few small features were being filmed
but we could not watch any filming of these productions. What happened
to the websites claim of seeing filming and being in the center of the
action?? Disappointing.
Besides the unprofessional guide there is really nothing interesting
that the guide or studio will let you see or do, except look at the
outside of sound stages. They did let us in to one stage where they
had filmed the George Lopez Show, they would not let us near the sets
on the stage we just got to sit in the audience bleachers which are
fenced off with metal poles and the guide just talked about the sets
and how they make the show, boring. The sets did not have any lights
and we could not see the sets as it was so dark.
They had a photo op****tunity in cheap exhibits one was a car display
in an old garage that was separated from the other section of the
garage with NO ventilation it was like a sauna inside and I felt
faint. The cars are from old TV shows from the 1970's that my
daughters had not seen and could care less about. The other studio
display was a small section of the old Friends set they had put up in
the prop department, again, small, cramped and stiffening heat made it
a misery, hot studio lights added to the heat with no fans or
ventilation, no thanks.
The small museum was a let down, the air conditioning was out and not
working, it was extremely hot inside and very boring, they had some
costumes from some TV shows and photos and scripts from TV shows from
the 1950's. The Harry Potter display was nice on the second floor but
mostly for a younger crowd into Harry Potter. Our family was not a fan
of the series. At the end of the tour they gave a long sales pitch
about the photos we could buy and other store items. The guide also
asked for a tip. I have one, do not take this tour. To be honest the
whole tour was a let down and at $45.00 a person, almost $200.00 and
we feel we did not get value for our money.
I have taken this tour a couple of times in the past. The tour has
progressively gotten worse. I'm easily taken in by the whole Hollywood
stuff but this last tour should be recognized as an embarrassment to
the movie industry. Our tour guide, and I use that term loosely, was
clueless. We were not taken down any of the filming streets (New York,
etc.), no sound stages, no nothing. Our guide was asked by several
members of the group and he just smiled and said he was working on it.
He did show us the lot's gas pumps...the gas pumps!...The guide seemed
very proud of the gas pumps. We spent most of the tour looking at the
wood shop, metal shop and old desks. I could hardly hold back my
enthusiasm! Thirty minutes of the tour was in the museum. Booooring! I
paid $135 for me, my mom and girlfriend. I was very embarrased for
even wasting their time and my money. Understand that if your taking
the tour to see movie sets, TV sets and celebrities, don't bother. If
you want to look at wood, metal and furniture, save your money and go
to your local furniture store. Thanks Warner Bros. Spend my money
wisely!
