One more in an occasional series...
Some quick notes on some recently rewatched episodes from Season 2.
2-10 The Bracebridge Dinner
Mostly a fun little episode, although it also helps develop various
plotlines. One recurring theme in this episode is the keeping of
secrets. Richard retires from his job without telling Emily.
Lorelai doesn't immediately tell Rory about Christopher suggestion
that Rory stay a few days during winter break (for reasons somewhat
similar to her brief lapse in "Kill Me Now"). And Rory is
concealing even from herself the developing attraction between her
and Jess. Although Dean is already starting to notice...
And the unsolved mystery. Who sabotaged the snowman? On the
whole, I'd tend to suspect Jess.
2-12 Richard in Stars Hollow
Richard is off of his "retirement high" and boredom is starting to
set in, even if he isn't recognizing it as such. Whether he'd have
been any less hypercritical even if he wasn't getting bored is
another question. Fun interaction between him and Dean. Richard
is so determined to find something wrong with the car. And Paris
REALLY isn't suited for anything requiring subtlety.
"Cecile to the annex"
2-13 A-Tisket A-Tasket
Miscommunications abound. Sookie and Jackson. Lane and Henry.
Rory and Dean. Sookie and Jackson's miscommunications end up
getting resolved with their engagement. The others don't end as
well.
Then there's Lorelai's argument with Rory about Jess. Still think
Emily was using reverse psychology on Lorelai with her over-the-top
approval of Lorelai's stand on Jess. Emily's remarks are just a
bit too over-the-top to be completely serious. And there's that
odd look Emily has when Lorelai leaves the table to talk to Rory.
Makes me think Emily knows what Lorelai's planning to do. Rather
like how Lorelai finally said things--still expressing her
concerns, but also telling Rory she trusts her judgement.
2-16 There's the Rub
Emily and Lorelai almost starting to bond. And Rory and Paris take
another step forward in their somewhat quirky friend****p. Jess
continues to push Dean's buttons. And continues his approaches to
Rory, while staying just this side of deniability.
Rory, meanwhile is just in denial...
Although it might have been interesting to see a Paris-Jess
romance...
