Some comments on Episodes 2-17, 2-20, 2-22

Some quick comments on three recently rewatched late Season 2
episodes.
2-17 Dead Uncles and Vegetables
Lorelai and Rory help out at the diner when Luke is preoccupied
with planning his uncle's funeral. Something that can get
overlooked is that, while over the course of the series we see Luke
helping out Lorelai more frequently than the reverse (partly due to
the personalities of the people involved), Lorelai is still there
for Luke when he really NEEDS help.
Also, Rory is very interested in making sure Jess helps out
sufficiently. One would almost think there's a sublimated
attraction there...
Steamroller Emily and suggestible Sookie--recipe for potential
disaster...
2-20 Help Wanted
An episode that focuses on the Richard-Lorelai relation****p.
Interestingly enough, they actually get along fairly well here.
Lorelai guides Richard through some of the details of running a
business. And Richard seems to like the idea of working with
Lorelai.
We also see the start of Lane's dream of being a rock drummer. And
we see Rory get increasingly frustrated at everyone placing ALL of
the blame on Jess for the accident. There's a nice scene at the
end between Luke and Rory. Luke lets Rory know that he isn't upset
with her (and perhaps helps reassure Rory that any problems between
him and Lorelai will eventually be resolved), without trying to do
what everyone else is doing and treating her as just an innocent
victim.
2-22 I Can't Get Started
Sookie and Jackson's wedding. And the timing is off again for
Lorelai and Christopher. Maybe the universe is trying to tell them
something. :-)
Also, Lorelai has an outwardly friendly conversation with Luke that
is somehow lacking something (reminds me a little of some of their
interactions in the Season 7 episode "It's Just Like Riding A
Bike").
Also Paris and Rory team up again. They seem to keep doing that.
And the subtext between Rory and Jess suddenly becomes text...
