It's been that way since the 80's, at least, I believe.  It boggles my
mind how in the hell anyone from California, or the USofA for that
matter, would vote for an actor for POTUS.  The problem was, though,
that in 1979, the US embassy in Iran was overrun and Carter just
wasn't effective fast enough for the country to get the hostages
released... not to mention the other problems he had on his plate
during his presidency.  It seems to me that if Carter had been able to
get the hostages released sooner, he'd have won a second term; Reagan
wouldn't have become a household name, and Arnold Schwarzenegger
wouldn't have shown up on anyone's political radar later on down the
road like he did.

Speaking of political figures... have you folks seen these new playing

I think these are a riot, AND they are bipartisan.  There are even
some in the deck of people like Barbra Streisand and Dan Rather, who,
while not politicians, per se, are very visible on the political
radar.
