Notes on two more Season 3 episodes.
3-9 A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving
This episode is structured around the four Thanksgiving dinners
that Lorelai and Rory attend. We see another of Lorelai and Luke's
little rituals at Luke's dinner. Although you don't really NEED a
vase for flowers. All you really need is something of roughly the
right size and shape that will hold water. Also a nice touch that
Luke was disappointed when L&R initially told him they wouldn't be
able to make it.
The last dinner shows us fallout from Richard's stunt in "Let the
Games Begin". We see some of this earlier in the episode, when we
learn that Lorelai has skipped a couple of dinners. But things
really explode when Rory reveals that one of her applications is to
Yale. A combination of surprise and Lorelai already being tense
and suspicious. Things would likely have been calmer all around,
if Richard had done the logical thing and just ASKED Rory to take
the interview in LtGB. Lorelai does start to work toward
acceptance of the possibility of Yale by the end of the episode.
Some other developments. Lane gets her first kiss from Dave. And
gets asked out by him. Apparently Kirk is not a cat person. At
least not with that particular cat. And Sookie's reaction to deep-
fried turkey is fun.
3-10 That'll Do, Pig
Winter Carnival at Star's Hollow High. And Lorelai's grandmother
is back in town. Interesting that Lorelai gives Emily some tips on
dealing with Trix. Lorelai doesn't seem to like it when Emily is
TOO much off-balance.
Also a bit of Jess-Dean reversal of roles, as Jess is jealous of
Rory's renewed friendship with Dean. It looked as if Dean was
planning to try to use his friendship to leverage his way into
getting Rory back. He apparently changed his mind at some point,
however, since a few episodes later he has a new girlfriend.
