!) There's another newsgroup where such a debate would be welcome.

2) Most people here (and elsewhere) knew that ROJJ was a trainwreck as
early as last October, when the show's episode order was cut in half
from 13 to 7 and the episode then-currently being filmed became its
last. I also read two different posts on two different websites about
two different tapings of ROJJ (the first regular episode shot and the
next-to-last) that both cited Parker Posey having immense difficulties
with memorizing the lines and both intimated that other regular actors
on the show were exasperated with her.

That's why I've always described the show as pre-cancelled.

FTR, though, I had already read ROJJ as a trainwreck waaaay last May
when Michael Ausiello interviewed Amy Sherman-Palladino at Fox's party
at the Upfronts where she declared that she wanted (and still wants)
to do a 2-hour Gg movie. THAT read to me that things already weren't
going too well between her and Fox -- or, more charitably, that she
wasn't satisfied with the pilot even then and already felt due to
Fox's reactions to the pilot that no matter what they did it was
pre-cancelled anyway and the only reason that it got on the schedule
at all was because it was a put-pilot or play-or-play deal where Fox
was going to have to air it no matter what.

Make no mistake, most Gg fans were, in fact, expecting a trainwreck.
It's just that

1) there's a vocal, bitter segment of Gg fans who are basically going
to trash ASP no matter what she does now because they hold her
waaaaay-too-personally responsible for their dissatisfations with s6
and s7. They're using the trainwreck of ROJJ as a transparently
obvious excuse to complain about s6 & 7 of Gg and to again voice not
their dislike of ROJJ or how it didn't work, but how much they hate
ASP.

(FTR, I blame Dawn Ostroff for not renewing the show for two seasons,
thus derailing a four-year storyline at what would have been its
halfway point and instead relying on an
almost-ready-but-needed-another-year protege of ASP to compress the
second two years of storyline into one season. BID.)

2) the rest of Gg fandom, the vast majority of Gg fandom, while aware
of the re****ts that ROJJ was a trainwreck to begin with, were
nevertheless going into the show with an open mind and hoping that the
critics and rumors were wrong. Shows have been savaged in the press
before and turned out to be winners. But it appears to me -- (and I
still haven't seen the show yet -- FOX's crappy track record with
sitcoms had made me reluctant *years* ago to try any half-hour show on
the net regardless of whose name is on the show, whether actor or
showrunner) -- that the show failed to meet even most Gg fans' low
expectations.

LORELAI: I am so done with plans. I am never, ever making one again.
It never works. I spend the day obsessing over why it didn't work
and what I could've done differently. I'm analyzing all my shortcomings
when all I really need to be doing is vowing to never, ever make a plan
ever again, which I'm doing now, having once again been the innocent
victim of my own stupid plans. God, I need some coffee.
