I haven't seen the episode recently, but if my memory serves Rory's call
that Lindsay picked up is right after Lorelai calls Rory on Rory's actions
of sleeping with a married man. In that case, Rory is calling Dean for
emotional sup****t or to convince herself what she did was really okay.

My big problem with the separation story line was its ending.
They had shown that Emily and Richard have been having problems some time,
but then it all ended a while later with the real problems (Emily's
feeling
of being useless and Richard's habit of ignoring the feelings of others
and
doing whatever he wants) being ignored.
