Mainly, because she missed

| She felt bad, IMHO, that she missed Lor's graduation, but not bad
| enough. If you really, really feel that badly about missing something,
| then do whatever you have to to NOT miss it in the first place, and Rory
| CERTAINLY could have waited until another day to go see Jess. She

I agree that Rory certainly could have picked another day to go see Jess,
but I think the whole point was that it was an out-of-character spur of
the
moment non-planned thing, based on the phone call she had with him, and
her
concern and growing feelings for him. Even so, I think she had every
intention of getting back in time, but didn't know the deal about the
local/express busses. I thought they did a good job with Rory's whirling
dervish level of upset at missing the graduation when she got home.
The part I liked best about the episode was when Lorelai graduated, and
looked from the stage at her parents looking at her and being proud, and
the
moment she realized that and was happy they were there.
