This is one thing that bugs me with all characters in the series; or
rather it is one thing that bugs me with the writers:
The Artificially Constructed Arguments.
"We need Emily to be peeved at Lor for no reason! Let's tem****arily
make Rory unable to speak in complete sentences so that there is no
way she can explain, up front, directly and politely to Emily that Lor
is shopping Yale stuff and can't make it."
