At an art gallery in Paris, Duncan assures that a dealer that a
painting that is being offered to said dealer is an original, not a
copy, but Duncan isn't interested in purchasing it. Then Duncan sees
a Celtic bracelet and pays a good deal more for it than the friend
accompanying him thinks it's worth. Duncan demands to know where the
dealer got it. At first he claims to have received it as part of an
estate sale. Duncan knows this isn't possible. The dealer then
admits that it came from somewhere in the Scottish highlands.
"Glenfinnan," says Duncan. "You know it," says the dealer. "I was
born there," Duncan responds seeming to be haunted by memory, but we
don't get a flashback just yet.
Next we see Duncan hiking through Scotland with Bonny ****tmore in the
background. He comes to his parents' graves and tells them he's glad
to be home. He's immediately confronted by Rachel MacLeod. She tells
Duncan that the campground is down the road. Duncan says he wasn't
planning on camping. Rachel complains that Duncan is standing on her
ancestors. "Mine too," says Duncan and introduces himself. Rachel
speaks contemptuously of people wanting to find their Highland roots.
"I didn't know I'd lost them," says Duncan trotting out whatever
accent he's using. Then he points out that Rachel doesn't sound like
a local. Rachel confesses to having been educated in the U.S. Then
she says that a clan member is being buried today, and they don't need
outsiders hanging around.
Later Duncan arrives at what turns out to be Rachel's inn. Rachel
asks sarcastically if she can get him haggis or a kilt. Duncan says
that all he wants is an ale. As he sips his drink, he asks her if
she's always this friendly. Rachel says that the village is friendly,
but careful of strangers. "Since when is a MacLeod a stranger in
Glenfinnan?" Duncan demands Then he says he was told that she might
have a room. She reluctantly offers him a room on the second floor.
"Next to the other one." "What other one?" asks Duncan in puzzlement.
At that point Joe greets Duncan. Duncan asks Joe how he knew that
Duncan was coming to Glenfinnan. Joe says it's his job. "Especially
when you come home after two hundred years," he adds. Duncan says
that this trip doesn't concern Joe. Joe says everything Duncan does
concerns him.
Duncan sees his father's sword hanging on the wall and experiences a
flashback.
