or Samhain (that's pronounced "saw-wayne"). End of the old Celtic
year, and tonight is the "night between years, when all evil things,
bound from year's end to year's end are free". (new Celtic year begins
at dawn tomorrow). Hence we disguise ourselves in costumes for the night.
As a good Pagan I ought to be observing the occasion. As a very tired
Civil Servant, I'll probably be heading for bed early (after "Heroes"
on BBC2). /Someone/ decided to poke me awake at 2.30am this morning,
because he'd dreamt that my alarm clock was going off, so he thought
I'd slept in. Since the previous night I'd tripped over a pile of
towels the cat had made a nest of in the bathroom while on a nocturnal
visit (too many cups of tea before bedtime) and hurt my foot badly
enough to stop me sleeping (it's all pretty blues, greens, purples and
reds), I'm really in need of a full night's sleep.
