At Seacouver air****t we see a sniper in a ski mask setting up to
target someone as the episode opens. He shoots and tem****arily kills
the Immortal Andrew Cord. Duncan, who is just returning from
Scotland, happens to be there with Joe, who is presumably picking him
up. Duncan goes in pursuit of the sniper who turns out to be
Charlie. Charlie says his grudge against Cord is private and has
nothing to do with Duncan. Duncan demands to know why Charlie attacked
Cord. Charlie only says that Cord deserved it and that he's willing
to take the conseauences. Duncan says he won't turn Charlie in. "If
you're in some sort of trouble..." Duncan begins. "It's nothing I
can't handle," Charlie responds. Duncn tells Charlie that he can't
handle this. Charlie maintains that he already has.
A perplexed and upset Charlie walks into the dojo later. He says that
the police, the newspapers and the air****t authorities all say nobody
died. "Maybe you just winged him," says Duncan. Charlie is sure that
he killed Cord. Duncan insists on knowing why Charlie came after
Cord. "It's Mara," says Charlie. We get a Charlie flashback.
In the Balkans, Charlie has launched an attack that has turned out to
have inexplicably high casualties. Mara says they have to break it
off. Charlie doesn't understand how such a disasterous defeat
happened. His people had the high ground. Mara reveals that the
Russian rifles they had purchased didn't work. Charlie says that the
Russians know how to make rifles. Cord, the arms dealer they bought
the guns from, must have sold them cheap imitations. Charlie demands
to know where Cord is. Mara says he's in his hotel room waiting for
the rest of his money. Charlie waves around a handgun and says he's
going to make sure Cord gets paid. Mara says she wants to go with
Charlie. Charlie tells her he's going to handle this himself. He
kisses Mara and leaves. He finds an empty hotel room.
As Charlie is walking back to his HQ, he hears a shot. He finds Mara
dead with Cord holding the murder weapon. "Oh, you're dead!" says
Charlie overwhelmed with hatred. "Sorry Charlie, but I have a
reputation to uphold," says Cord and begins firing at Charlie, who
dives from the window and escapes.
In the present Duncan says he knows what Charlie is going through but
he needs to forget about Cord. Charlie tells him that he can't. He
demands to know if Duncan saw Charlie take Cord down. "You didn't
kill him," says Duncan. "Later," says Charlie and leaves.
