Charlie next shows up at Joe's just as Cord is about to arrive to talk
to Duncan. Duncan tells Charlie he needs to go. Charlie says he just
needs an explanation of what happened at the air****t. Then Cord comes
in and Charlie lunges at him with a knife. Duncan struggles with
Charlie, disarms him and propels him out the door. Charlie says he
doesn't understand why Duncan is interfering when Cord killed Mara.
Duncan explains about Cord and Joe being friends, and warns Charlie
that Cord will kill him. There are things about Cord that Charlie
doesn't know. Duncan asks Charlie to give him a couple of days to work
things out. Charlie says there's only one way to settle things between
him and Cord. "Not today," pleads Duncan. Charlie reluctantly agrees
and walks away.
Joe apparently invited Charlie to Joe's to explain his side of
things. Charlie comes in and says that he's always thought of Joe as
"a stand up guy". Joe offers him a drink which Charlie accepts. Joe
says Cord is a friend. Charlie then says harshly that they have
nothing to talk about. Joe insists that they do. He tells Charlie
that his bond with Cord goes back to Vietnam, but doesn't explain the
specifics. He tells Charlie that what Cord did to save his life, made
him a brother to Joe. Charlie says that he still has to fight Cord.
"He'll kill you," Joe warns. "Everyone keeps saying that," Charlie
responds. Then he thanks Joe for the drink and leaves.
Cord is waiting outside the club and invites Charlie to "come and
play". Charlie grins triumphantly and comes after him. Cord says
"You're a good soldier and a brother and I don't like to kill
brothers." "Kiss my black ass, man," says Charlie bitterly. They
start fighting with knives. "Charlie, that was nifty," says Cord in a
superior tone. "Did MacLeod teach you that?" He taunts Charlie by
asking him to entertain him some more. They fight a while longer.
Then Cord disarms Charlie and stabs him. "Say goodbye to MacLeod for
me, and say hello to Mara," Cord says maliciously.
Duncan finds Charlie dying. He talks about getting help. "We both
know it's too late," says Charlie. Charlie still doesn't understand
why Cord didn't die at the air****t. Duncan says he promised Charlie
to tell him the truth before he died, so he reveals that he and Cord
are Immortal. "I always knew there was something weird about you,
MacLeod. It all starts to fit," says Charlie. "I don't suppose you
could spare some," he jokes weakly. Then Charlie says "So there was
no way I could have killed that son of a *****." Duncan re-affirms
that Charlie couldn't, but he (Duncan) can. Charlie dies in Duncan's
arms.
End lecture. Questions next part.
