We next see Joe playing his guitar at his club while he and Duncan
wait for Cord. Duncan asks Joe how long he's been playing. Joe says
he's been playing since he was a kid, and "after Vietnam he had some
time on his hands." Then Joe assures Duncan that Cord would come.
"He keeps his word." Joe says that he wishes he set up the meeting in
a church to keep Duncan and Cord from having a fatal encounter. Then
Charlie shows up demanding to know what really happened at the
air****t. Joe says "You can come back tonight. I'll tell you
everything you want to know." Then Duncan feels Cord's buzz and says
it's too late for that. Charlie lunges at Cord and Duncan struggles
with him. Joe puts his hand over his eyes as Duncan propels Charlie
out the door.

Joe returns to the weekend warrior camp apparently summoned by Cord
this time. Cord says he wants to set up another meeting with Duncan.
He makes it clear that he intends to fight Duncan. Joe says it
doesn't have to be like that. "Grow up,Joe," says Cord. Joe pleads
that Duncan is his friend. Cord says "I carried you sixteen freakin'
miles on my back! I own your ass!" Joe says " I may owe you my
life. I don't owe you his."

Joe goes to Duncan's loft to convey Cord's challenge. He paces the
floor worriedly. Duncan says he'll wear a hole in the floor. Joe
asks him to go away for a few days so he can work things out. Duncan
says he won't hide from an Immortal challenger. "Don't do this to
me!" says Joe in anguish. Duncan tells him emphatically that he's not
the one who's doing this to Joe. It was Cord who issued the
challenge. Then Duncan feels Cord's buzz in the dojo. He tells Joe
to stay put.

When we next see Joe, he has summoned Charlie to Joe's to appeal to
his sense of military comrade****p. Joe doesn't go into details about
what Cord did for him in Vietnam, but says that Cord is his brother
forever. Charlie says that he still has to fight Cord. "He'll kill
you," says Joe. Charlie refuses to believe it and goes toward his
destiny.

After Charlie's death, Duncan comes into Joe's demanding Cord's
location. He had defeated Cord, let him walk away and then he killed
Charlie, Duncan tells Joe. Joe tells Duncan about the weekend warrior
camp.

In the final scene, Joe comes to the dojo wearing a suit. He says to
Duncan that he feels responsible for the death of Charlie. Duncan
blames himelf saying that he allowed the friend****p with Joe to become
too close. He proclaims the end of their friend****p. "So that's it.
We just walk away," says Joe. He leaves the dojo sadly.

End lecture. Questions next part.
