An Immortal who is Mikey's caretaker asks him for assistance with
lifting a container. We learn that his name is Alan. Alan tells
Mikey that he needs to put down his model train first. Mikey starts
reciting information about trains as he puts it down. Mikey helps
Alan carry the container while pretending that it's a train and
shouting "All aboard."
Alan and Mikey sense another Immortal. Alan's mortal wife Helen who
has called them to lunch, guesses that this is what happened from
their expressions. Alan tells Mikey to go with Helen. He instructs
Helen to take Mikey into the bus where they are living and keep him
down. Mikey resists saying that he's not a kid anymore and he can
help. Alan insists that Mikey go inside the bus and stay quiet.
Mikey tells Helen to be quiet because those are Alan's instructions,
but when he gets to the bus he says he doesn't want to go inside and
that he doesn't like it in the bus. Helen shouts at him to go in and
he obeys. She urges him down. They crouch together in the bus.
The stranger Immortal arrives and Mikey gets up when he hears the
swordfight. He says "Alan needs me." Helen struggles to get Mikey to
stay down and Mikey puts a hand over her mouth belatedly following the
instructions to be quiet once again. She continues struggling and
Mikey accidentally strangles her as the stranger takes Alan's head.
Mikey flees in panic when the quickening begins.
Mikey encounters Richie on a motorcycle. He had been shouting "Train
go fast," but when he feels Richie's buzz he says "Make it stop."
Then he decides Richie is friendly. He tells Richie that he's
hungry. Richie gives Mikey some food. He asks for more, but there is
none. Richie asks if Mikey is lost and where he lives. "Nobody's
home," says Mikey anxiously. Richie says he's headed up the coast and
Mikey recites facts about the Coast Starlight train. Then he tells
Richie when Amtrak was founded. Richie asks if Mikey wants to come
along with him. Mikey agrees. Richie says "all aboard" and Mikey
climbs on the back of the motorcycle.
Richie decides to bring Mikey to Duncan. After Mikey and Duncan are
introduced to each other, Mikey starts reciting about Duncan, Oklahoma
as a train destination. Richie says Duncan is his best friend. Mikey
starts talking about a train called "Best Friend" which was apparently
the first train in the U.S.
Mikey picks up an antique clock Duncan tells him to be careful with
it. Mikey surrenders it to Duncan and says that he's sorry. Richie
suggests that he, Mikey and Duncan go for a walk. Mikey thinks this
is a good idea.
Mikey notices the model locomotive he had been clutching on his
wanderings is broken. Duncan offers to fix it. He asks Mikey where
he used to live. "In a house," says Mikey and then rattles off
figures about train tracks in Argentina. "Were there other people in
the house?" Duncan inquires. "Nobody's home," Mikey repeats and
starts declaiming about miles of track in various countries. Duncan
fixes the toy locomotive and Mikey wanders off.
