Well that's the most often cited story for critics and fans.  As
much as I love that issue (it literally is a key point in my life)
I personally think that Neil found his voice a couple of issues
earlier with "24 Hours".  This issue was markedly different from
the 5 that preceded it and truly showcased his craft.  6 issues
in to really get your footing isn't bad though especially when
you're building a world and mythos from the ground up.

I'm defensive of the first story arc because I think it often gets
unfairly maligned.  Just as I'm defensive of Marc Hempel's artwork
on "The Kindly Ones" arc which is my favourite of the entire series.

There are bigger fans. I know alot of them.  Some who perhaps take it
a bit too far even but unless you've traveled much of the continent
to go to signings and readings, spent way more money than is healthy,
or had his words and characters inked into your skin, then probably
not ;)
