The First Holiday in February

Super Bowl Sunday is drawing nigh. I have stocked up on Diet Coke and
potato chips and frozen pizza. It is impossible to eat healthy on
Super Bowl Sunday. That's actually all I know about the holiday, being
not a practitioner of the Extreme Football Religion. I understand that
some folks celebrate with chili and/or clam chowder ... and beer.
Beer, I think, is very important to the truly devoted, as is a large-
screen television.
There were "individual cakes" for sale at the supermarket today ...
with small footballs embedded in the icing. I did not fall for this
crassly commercial offering in the bakery department. I almost went
for the football-themed frosted cookies.
I may curl up on the couch and listen to all the director's
commentaries of all three volumes of Lord of the Rings. Of course,
putting any one of those directors commentaries on the DVD player is
going to put me right to sleep. Peter Jackson's giggles have lulled me
into many nights of sleep when I was having a previously sleepless
night. I bless Peter Jackson and his giggles.
Did I mention we're due to get 3 - 5" of new snow tomorrow ... on top
of the snow we got yesterday? There is no joy in Mudville.
