Next Duncan watches Mark Roszca move out of his apartment leaving his
girlfriend behind. Duncan overhears that she's pregnant. He walks
away.
At the fixer upper house, Richie insists that Duncan needs to kill
Roszca for Tessa. Duncan responds that he can't do anything for
Tessa. Richie says he doesn't understand.
Then Duncan hears a dog barking. It turns out to be a boy walking his
dog, but Duncan has a flashback.
Duncan is in bed with the Duchess who tells him "Ever since the Duke
died, I've taken little pleasure except in your arms." Then Kanis'
dogs are heard. It turns out that they killed a guard. The Duchess
decides to execute Kanis right away. The Duchess and Duncan witness
his hanging. Just before he's hanged, Kanis says he'll remember
Duncan. Duncan says he hopes so. Afterwards, Duncan wants to stay
saying that he wants to make sure Kanis is properly buried, but the
Duchess says "Let the beasts take care of their own." When Duncan
returns to the grave site, Kanis has already dug himself out.
In the present, Duncan goes running in a park leaving his sword in his
car. He's having Tessa flashbacks as he runs. Then he has a
flashback to Mark Roszca with his pregnant girlfriend. He realizes
that there's a dog in his path who is quickly joined by more. Duncan
walks away. The dogs follow. Then he runs. They knock him down and
begin savaging him right near his car. He grabs his sword out of his
car and threatens them with it. He's able to leave then, but there's
a dog on the hood. Presumably, this is the dog who is killed because
Duncan drives away.
Duncan is healed by the time he reaches the loft. Kanis calls and
asks if he enjoyed his run. Duncan says "Enough, Kanis." Kanis warns
him to sleep well, but not too well. Duncan takes a shower, but feels
a buzz when he emerges. He grabs his sword. It's Richie. Duncan
tells Richie about Kanis' hunting strategy. Richie asks if he's got a
plan. Duncan says he's going to find Kanis and kill him. Richie
suggests that Joe may know where he is. Duncan acknowledges this
possibility, but says he's not going to ask. Richie tells Duncan
about his discovery that Roszca is gone. Duncan says that he watched
Roszca move out. Richie doesn't understand how Duncan could just
watch and not stop him. "That girl loves him, and she's pregnant."
"So what!" says Richie. "You're going to make her a widow," Duncan
tells him. Then he gives Richie a speech about what he did after the
Battle of Culloden. "Are you going to stop me?" Richie asks. Duncan
shakes his head. Richie leaves.
Duncan arrives at a dog breeder's facilities just in time to prevent
Kanis from harming the dog breeder. Kanis leaves. Duncan asks if the
dog breeder is all right, then goes after Kanis. Duncan wants to
fight, but one of Kanis' dogs is being petted by the dog breeder's
son. Kanis says that all he has to do is think about it and the dog
will rip the boy's throat out. So Duncan has to back down.
The dog breeder tells Duncan that she's really glad Duncan showed up
because Kanis was trouble. She says that she's a good judge of what
kind of dog owner someone will be, and she had Kanis pegged as the
nasty owner of a pack of nasty males. "The bigger the dog, the
smaller the..." She's embarrassed to say what she really means in
front of Duncan. She says that Kanis tried to buy Lucille, who is
coming into heat. Duncan interacts with Lucille and says he thinks
she likes him.
Kanis approaches Duncan later at the fixer upper and says that it's
time for their fight. His dogs pursue Duncan into the house by
sma****ng through the front window. Duncan then opens the door to the
room where he's keeping Lucille and says "Hey Lucille, your dates are
here." Kanis' dogs run into the room and Duncan closes the door.
Kanis is forced to fight Duncan. They fight on the ****ch. When Kanis
leaves the ****ch looking for more favorable ground, Duncan does a
somersault over him and beheads him on the way down. The quickening
raises the house from its foundations and sets it down violently. "I
should have gotten earthquake insurance." says Duncan.
Richie comes to the fixer upper. He sees the dogs and says "I guess
you took care of Kanis." "With a little help from Lucille here," says
Duncan. "She's going back to the breeder with interest."
Then Duncan asks about Richie and Roszca. "It didn't feel like I
thought it would," says Richie. "It never does," Duncan tells him.
"I had him in my hands," Richie continues,"but I couldn't kill him.
Where's the justice?" Richie wonders. Duncan answers, "There is no
justice, just mercy."
