It seemed like he bought the dojo because he wanted a good place to
train, he liked the dojo, and he didn't want it to go under. It's
pretty clear he has plenty of money, from real investments. The dojo
wasn't an investment, it was a training expense. He can afford to
lose some money, but not to lose his head.
It was pretty clear from the first dojo ep that the dojo was about
quality training, not about commercial success. If you want to make
money, you don't have a "private club", or give entrance exams. I can
just see the ads now: "Come join Bally's! You'll lose lots of weight,
and become really fit. Just beat our head guy, who is former military
special forces and in great shape, and we'll let you in! Oh, and it's
free for the first month!" Makes you wonder how the dojo survived as
long as it did.

Very easy: recommendations. "Hey, are you still looking for a
Medievalist? I know this guy, doesn't have much in the way of formal
qualifications, but seems like he really knows his stuff. I think
he'd make a great instructor. Of course, not my area of specialty,
but I'd be happy to set up an interview."

Google finds a source that says that:
The Battle of Nicea was enlivened by the fact that the chargers of
the Christina knights were stallions, whereas the Turkish archers
rode mares. Moreover, since the battle occurred in June, many of
the mares were in heat.

Considering that DM was born well after the Crusades ended,
presumably, he learned this fact via do***ented sources rather than
first-hand.
> 7)How did Duncan happen to locate the dog breeder that Kanis chose?
> Surely there is more than one dog breeder in Seacouver.
Dog breeders tend to specialize in one breed, or at most a small
number of breeds. This is especially true of the high quality dogs
Kanis would have been seeking. Kanis would have needed a purebred dog
with specific breed characteristics and no signs of inbreeding, not
the local pet shop special. Presumably, DM visited several
prestigious breeders of the correct type (Rottweiler?) before he found
the correct one.

I think that was intended as a joke.
