President's Day is one of the holidays generally ignored by businesses
in the US ... the retail stores try to jack up sales with bigtime
SALES!, but most places I worked never gave it as a holiday.
As for call centers, they call us from India and transfer our calls to
India. And a new trend is call centers in Canada. But a friend of a
friend just took a short-term contract in Canada to train Indians to
do the jobs currently done in Canadian call centers. Which is what my
American friends have been doing for years ... training Indians to do
their jobs, and then having to try to find new jobs here. [shrug]  The
jobs that former techies are doing here are quite outside their
training and chosen career paths. Fortunately, my chosen career path
was always to write the Great American Novel  ... I should do that
someday.
