Remember, this was created by the guy who became famous because of
"Queer as Folk."

Mostly agreement.  Torchwood is a reasonably good sci fi show, but
nothing amazing.  But I wouldn't even list "Doctor Who" among the top
shows, and have never watched "Veronica Mars."  "Battlestar
Galactica," OTOH, and some sci fi comedies such as Red Dwarf and
Futurama, are also top tier.

I'm much more looking forward to new Battlestar than to new Torchwood
or Doctor Who.
