It's quite a good book. Not at all what I expected it to be and
quite a surprise. In this novel Gaiman paints an atmosphere and
locations exceedingly well without being too descriptive like
some authors who take ten pages to describe the setting for you.
It made me want to be in some of those places. For someone who
has interest or knowledge of mythologies and\or religions it is
great fun. I have a pretty decent general knowledge but Neil's
is unfathomable. It's also a novel that I'm proud to say that
I have a part in...sort of. There is a throwaway sentence about
halfway through the book describing a bad, very long su**** dinnner
in Knoxville, TN that two of the characters have that is based on
a su**** dinner Neil actually had that I was in attendance at.
This same su**** dinner Rocky a friend of mine broke the glass top
of the Japanese floor style dinner table in a panic trying to get
away from another diners' squid tentacles su****. She is deathly
afraid of tentacles. Can't even look at comic books with tentacled
creatures in them. I even had Neil sign my hard cover copy of the
novel "Yes he was at the su**** dinner" since the only pic I have of
it someone is leaning into the table and completely blocking me
out of the pic.
