When Duncan's class at the university ends, Shandra Devane approaches
departing students and asks how Duncan is as an instructor. "He's
great!" says a girl with stars in her eyes. "Oh
I'm sure he is, he can he teach?" Shandra Devane wonders.
She tells Duncan about a meeting for teachers on the topic of life
insurance. Duncan smiles and says "Tell me how it goes."
Questions For Further Study
1)We know that in Wrath of Kali, five episodes later, Shandra Devane
is a museum curator. Did she quit her university job or was she an
employee of both the university and the museum?
2)When she asks the students whether Duncan can teach, is it idle
curiosity from another member of the history department, or do you
think she is the history department chairperson who hired Duncan?
3) Her phrase "Oh I'm sure he is" implies that she finds Duncan
attractive. Do you think Shandra Devane pursued Duncan romantically
while he was teaching the seminar?
4)Did it bother Shandra that Duncan wouldn't be attending the meeting
on life insurance?
5)What impression do you have of this character in "Leader of the
Pack"? Is it different from your impression of her in "Wrath of
Kali"?
I was very surprised when I noticed that the Professor enquiring about
Duncan in this episode was Shandra Devane. I hadn't realized that the
character had appeared before Wrath of Kali.
Next time I post, it will be my first lecture on "Double Eagle", my
favorite HL comedy episode.
