The local PBS station is holding a pledge week, that's lasted 2 weeks
so far ... and lord only knows how long it will keep going on.
So this time, instead of mostly new programming for pledge week,
they're playing The Best of Pledge ... and rerunning what they think
are old favorites. Celtic Woman is getting serious time, and they're
promoting a concert that's going to take place here in town by Celtic
Woman ... fine. But now we've added Celtic Thunder, which is guys ...
who bring to mind Joe Feeney on the Lawrence Welk Show of
yesterday ... and they don't sound all that good or all that
thunderous to me ... and they're going to have a concert here, too. In
years past, we've gone through Riverdance (2 versions), the making of
Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, Lord of the Dance: Feet of Flames, now
Celtic Woman and Celtic Thunder. I'm just waiting for the return of
Red Green and The Vicar of Dibley and Washington Week in Review, and
the McLaughlin Group ... and yes, The Complete Jane Austen.
I'm a McKitrick on my mother's side, and I have had 2 Irish setters,
and I say it's time for the Celts to retire for a bit. Today was the
Snake Saturday Parade in North Kansas City, and the real big St.
Patrick's Day parade will be presented downtown on Monday ... in the
rain. And how much green beer is too much green beer? I'm in Celtic
Overload.There's no escape.
Save me.
