I posted this 5 years ago ... in remembrance of something that
happened 10 years ago on Easter weekend.
Jerri
Just going through a box of stuff and found the postcards I collected
when I
was in California for the week after the Highlander Celebration con in
April
'98.
The Con, of course, was beyond wonderful ... meeting everyone from
ATH,
hearing Roger Daltrey sing just for us, seeing all the stars of HL,
generally basking in the ambience of total fellowship of like minds.
Ya
hadda be there. I've never seen anything like it, before or since.
Learning
that the 2nd most popular show amongst con-goers just *had* to be The
X
Files, because everyone disappeared from the bar when X Files came on
television on the final night of the con to return to their rooms to
watch X
Files. Never a fan of *that* show, I was a little perturbed, but
returned to
my own room to discover that the 24-hour Highlander channel had been
discontinued and I was bereft.
The next morning, I packed my rental car and headed for San Diego ...
which
was cold ... so after doing a couple of days of obligatory zoo and
harbor
tour, Old Town and other sight seeing, I headed back north ... and
spent a
night in Carlsbad. A tourist town in which a Greek professor of
something-or-other at one of the CA universities tried to pick me up
on the
beach; I saw wonderful godlike creatures skateboarding past me ...
including
one godlike creature whose skateboard was being hauled by a big
beautiful
doggie. An older couple had taken up residence with me on my park
bench next
to the street, overlooking the ocean ... and the lady called out to
the
godlike creature who stopped to talk with them for a time. When he
left, I
sincerely thanked the lady for allowing me to participate in
appreciating
the godlike creature from such a close vantage. Because he was truly
godlike in physical aspects, and from their conversation, on which I
eavesdropped shamelessly, I gathered he was Quite a Nice Guy, too. The
lady
laughed. Her husband was a bit confused. She told him she would
explain
later.
A trip shopping in Carlsbad led to my being informed that I am a
descendant
of Atlantis because of all the blue veins visible through my skin. It
happened in an occult shop of some sort, and obviously the lady who
told me
that had never seen a pale skin redhead before. A dubious thing, that.
Redheads are pretty common, but maybe we buy more if we're told we're
from
Atlantis by a lady in a shop.
Back down to San Diego to catch a flight home.
That was 5 years ago. Celebration took place over Easter Weekend of
'98. I
forgot to think about it on Sunday.
I'm thinking about it now. <G>
