Questions For Further Study
1)In the opening scene Kit wins a game of mahjong and evades the
gangster to whom he owes money through tem****ary death. Was Kit
really having a streak of bad luck or is this just Kit's perception?
2)Kit kisses his cane before he takes his turn in mahjong. Was the
cane Kit's good luck fetish after his loss of the double eagle coin?
Does Kit really need such a fetish?
3)How has Kit managed to survive with his sneezing reaction to other
Immortals? What if he was sneezing when he encountered a ruthless
K'Immie who was hunting him for his head?
4)Kit boasts to Duncan about his callus free hands. Doesn't he have
sword calluses? If not, isn't Amanda more of a threat to Kit than
vice versa?
5)In the 1888 flashback, Duncan claims that he lost $2000 to a cheater
in the Double Eagle, but Kit doesn't believe Duncan. Doesn't Kit
trust Duncan not to lie to him about such a thing?
6)Kit doesn't notice that Amanda mispronounces "magnfique" when she's
pretending to be French in the flashback. Is Kit unfamiliar with
French? Why doesn't Kit suspect Amanda of not being who she appears
to be until she wins his casino?
7)In the present, did Kit suspect that Amanda is the woman in Duncan's
loft before he encounters her there?
8)Why didn't Kit want to fight Amanda before the race with the
stipulation that the survivor gets the horse? Is it because he, with
the uncallused hands, realized that Amanda would probably win?
9)In separate incidents, Duncan and Amanda both conceal that Kit has
lost. If Kit has a continuing losing streak, were they doing him a
favor? Is Kit likely to lose money on the Double Eagle horse?
Kit can be charming, but blind to the consequences of his actions
which makes him more than a bit similar to the female Immortal he most
despises.
