In the flashback Amanda talks to Duncan about bringing wealthy women
into the casino. Then Kit arrives wanting to buy it back. Amanda
says that Kit's welcome to gamble, but the casino isn't for sale. Kit
tells her that he built it from nothing and that it's his life.
"Well, now it's my life," says Amanda. Kit responds angrily that "No
thieving French harlot with a coiffure" is going to take it away from
him. Amanda slaps him, and says she's not French. "Yeah but you
cheated," Kit accuses. "Nobody cheated," Duncan interjects trying to
keep the peace between his two friends. Kit says he doesn't lose in a
casino named for his lucky coin. Amanda says she didn't like the
name, so she changed it to the Queen of Spades. Kit asks the
bartender for his lucky coin which is still mounted above the bar.
Amanda refuses to allow it. She tells the bouncer to escort Kit out.
"It's his lucky piece," Duncan pleads. "Oh boo hoo!" says Amanda.
After Kit leaves, Duncan asks why Amanda insisted on retaining the
coin. She says it's because Kit accused her of cheating.
In the present, when Duncan finds Amanda at the race track he says
"What a surprise!" Amanda wants to know what Duncan sees in the other
woman she supposes that Duncan is meeting there. So Duncan mentions
the attributes of the horse he's buying with Kit ending with "and four
great feet" as they approach the horse's stall. Then Richie runs up
to say he closed the deal for the horse. "For me!" Amanda exclaims
happily. Then she goes over to pet the horse.
In the next scene Amanda is massaging Duncan as ammends for treating
Duncan so shabbily and being so suspicious. Then Amanda mentions that
the name of the horse, Double Eagle, reminds her of Kit O'Brady.
Duncan claims to be surprised that Amanda remembers him. "You don't
forget the Black Plague" Amanda declares. Duncan wonders how long she
could stay mad at Kit. "Just about until hell freezes over," she
tells Duncan.
In the flashback, Amanda is presiding over the Queen of Spades. She
says "What do you think, MacLeod? Is it me?" Duncan says she put her
stamp on the casino. Amanda says that for the first time, she's made
something she's proud of. "Amanda, you won it in a card game,"
Duncan objects. She says she's happier now. Duncan says that he's
happy for her. Amanda responds that they'd be even happier in her
hotel room.
We next see Duncan and Amanda in bed under the covers. "Where did you
learn that?" she asks Duncan about some particular bed skill. Duncan
claims Amanda taught him. Amanda doesn't think so, and asks where
they were. "Budapest," says Duncan, then quickly corrects this to
Constantinople. Duncan then talks about Kit losing regularly at the
casino. "Well, that's because that's what he is," says Amanda
viciously. She demands to know if she should rig the tables in Kit's
favor. Duncan doesn't think that's a bad idea, but what he really
wants is for Amanda to return Kit's lucky coin. Amanda finally
agrees. "I always knew you were a kind and loving soul," says Duncan
kissing her.
Then the bartender comes to tell Amanda that the casino is burning
down. By the time Duncan and Amanda get there, it's too late to save
it. Amanda is mournful. She says that the casino was her home. She
was like a queen there. Duncan says she'll find another place.
Amanda believes that Kit burned it down and she swears she'll have his
head. Duncan remonstrates that she doesn't know Kit is responsible.
Amanda refuses to believe otherwise. She pitches Kit's double eagle
coin down the sewer.
In the present Amanda says she'll never forgive Kit. Then she asks if
Duncan really wants to go out because she has a lasagna recipe she
wants to try. They feel a buzz. Duncan says again that it must be
Richie, but it's Kit. They fling accusations at each other. Amanda
tells Kit that she threw his lucky coin into the sewer. "Some rat's
got it and it's probably winning," she taunts. Kit says that Duncan
had better get a new woman "because this one's gone". Duncan asks
if they can't discuss this like reasonable people. Both Amanda and
Kit shout "No!" Duncan slugs Kit, carries him out in the elevator and
tells Richie to keep Amanda in the loft. Richie tries to manhandle
Amanda. Amanda says that Richie definitely has been working out.
Richie releases her in order to preen. She slugs Richie and escapes.
Amanda and Kit are determined to fight in the dojo, but Duncan pleads
"Not here. It's my home.' Then he tells them that they're partners.
"I gave my half to Amanda," he explains to Kit, referring to the
horse. Amanda and Kit delay their duel until after the race the next
day. The survivor will keep the horse.
