Kenny is running through the dock area of Seacouver pursued by
Immortal Terence Kincaid. Kenny is clutching his arm which is covered
in blood. He runs into the hospital and encounters Anne. Anne says
she'll examine him. Meanwhile Kincaid has found Kenny. Kenny begs
Anne not to leave him alone. Anne sends for a suture kit, but then
sees that Kenny's arm is rapidly healing. She realizes that Kenny is
Immortal. She takes him to the chapel, so that he'll have the refuge
of holy ground. Kenny is upset when she returns with Duncan. "You
said you'd help me. Why did you call him for?" He tells Anne that
Duncan wants his head. Duncan says he'll protect Kenny until he can
get him out of town. "I'm not going anywhere with you," says Kenny.
"Fine," says Duncan and leaves.
Anne goes after Duncan with Kenny at her heels. They arrive after a
confrontation between Duncan and Kincaid. Anne insists that Duncan
has to help Kenny. "He's only a little kid." Duncan explains that
Kenny is actually 800 years old. Duncan gives Kenny the choice of
dealing with Kincaid or him. Kenny looks at Kincaid, then says to
Duncan "Let's go."
Duncan takes Kenny back to the dojo. On the way to the elevator
Duncan asks Kenny where he met Kincaid. "Dpwn by the docks," Kenny
tells him. In the elevator Kenny feels a buzz and accuses Duncan of
setting him up. Duncan says "She's a friend. She's not like that,"
"We're all like that," answers Kenny cynically.
It turns out to be Amanda who is Kenny's long lost teacher. Kenny
embraces her fondly. At dinner Kenny claims Duncan's plate and chows
down on the contents after Duncan leaves the table because he's unable
to take more of Amanda's sentimental gushing about her, Kenny and
Duncan being a family. Kenny corrects Amanda about calling him
Kenneth saying that he's Kenny now. "It suits you," says Amanda.
Kenny says he was afraid he'd never see Amanda again.
Kenny has a flashback. He sees his foster parents dead in their
cottage. They'd been killed by the Normans and Kenny had just
revived from his first death. Amanda approaches the cottage and draws
her sword. "Don't hurt me," says Kenny as he emerges. Kenny tells
her that his foster parents were dead because his foster father hadn't
been able to pay the taxes. And the Normans had hurt him too, but it
had healed. Amanda says she knew about his healing, and she'd never
hurt Kenny. She embraces him reassuringly.
In the next scene Amanda explains immortality and the Game to Kenny.
She starts his sword training. Kenny says he doesn't think he can
fight because he's too small. Amanda says they can find a smaller
sword for him. She adds that she's lived 300 years by being quick and
clever. She says "We use the weapons that we have." She thinks that
Kenny's weapon is his innocence. Kenny remembers seeing his foster
mother being raped and his foster father being killed when he tried to
defend her. Kenny's innocence is gone.
Later Kenny watches from hiding as Amanda is rousted by Norman
soldiers who say that a woman and child had been robbing tax
collectors. Amanda says that it couldn't be her. She's alone. She
claims to be a baker, but the Normans don't believe her. She has too
heavy a purse. Their commander says that they'll gang rape her and
hang her when they're finished. Kenny runs which is when he's seen.
The Normans pursue, but Kenny evidently evades them.
