In the present Amanda and Kenny have been grocery shopping. Kenny is
carrying two bags and Amanda only one. Kenny says he can handle it.
"Sorry," says Amanda. Kenny says she never has to be sorry about
anything as far as he's concerned. Amanda tells him that after she
revived from being hanged by the Normans, she looked for Kenny for
three years. Kenny tells her that he'd stowed away on a ship. "I
wish you would have found me," Kenny says. Amanda says he's here with
her now. "But not for long," returns Kenny bitterly. Duncan wants to
get rid of him. "I don't want to lose you again, Amanda." He's sure
that he can't stay so long as Duncan is in Amanda's life. "He's not
such a bad guy once you get to know him." Amanda tells him Kenny says
he doesn't want to know Duncan. Amanda thinks they can work this
out. "Yeah right," says Kenny. Then he gives his bag to Amanda and
claims that he forgot to get something at the store. Amanda is
worried about Kincaid finding Kenny. Kenny says he'll be careful and
would be back soon.
Kenny goes to find Kincaid at the docks and tells him that he can help
Kincaid to get rid of Duncan.
Later Kenny arrives in the loft with Anne. Anne had come to check on
Kenny. While Anne and Amanda find that they can be friends, Duncan
asks Kenny what was so important that he risked his head. Kenny
produces a bouquet of flowers and says they're for Amanda. Amanda
says they're very pretty, thanks him and gives him a maternal kiss.
Duncan says to Kenny that there was another Immortal presence when he
went to see Kincaid. "It wasn't me," said Kenny. "I wouldn't go near
him." Duncan wants to go for a walk and talk with Kenny and assures
Amanda that it won't be more than that. In the elevator Kenny starts
calling for help. Duncan tells him that Amanda can't hear him. Kenny
threatens that if Duncan kills him, Amanda will kill Duncan. "I'm her
son. You're just some guy she screws." Duncan says he doesn't want
Kenny's head. He just wants to know why Kenny was in the vicinity of
the docks. He knows Kenny was there because he has tar on his shoes.
Duncan lets Kenny know that he will kill Kenny if he comes after
Duncan. He also says that he won't turn his back on Kenny. "The
second you do, I'll take your head just like that," Kenny boasts.
Then he runs off.
Next Kenny calls the loft. Amanda answers. He tells her that Kincaid
is after him. He wants Amanda to come and get him. "And tell Duncan
I'm sorry. I should have trusted him," he says with apparent
sincerity. Kenny says he's by the docks and he's scared. After Kenny
hangs up, Kincaid says he wants Duncan, not Amanda. Kenny says Duncan
will be there. He tells Kincaid that he can have Duncan, "but Amanda
is all mine".
While Kincaid and Duncan are fighting in a warehouse, Kenny turns on
a valve that releases a gas that blinds Duncan from above them.
Amanda sees Kenny do it. "You set him up!" she says angrily. Then
she says that Duncan would have helped Kenny. Kenny says belatedly
that they can't interfere. Duncan manages to take Kincaid's head even
though he's blinded. While Duncan is in the throes of the quickening,
Kenny handcuffs Amanda's hands to the gas valve and kisses her in the
manner of a lover. Then he goes down to take Duncan's head before he
can recover. Amanda escapes and hurls the handcuffs at Kenny saying
that handcuffing her is kids' stuff. She obviously intends to fight
Kenny to protect Duncan. "But I'm just a boy," Kenny protests. "Like
hell!" says Amanda bitterly. Kenny says Duncan will kill him.
"Maybe," says Amanda, "but if you kill him, I will kill you." Kenny
flees, unable to face Amanda sword to sword.
Questions For Further Study
1) Kenny is unhappy with Anne for calling Duncan when he comes to the
hospital running from Kincaid. What did Kenny expect Anne to do in
those circumstances?
2)Did Kenny think that robbing Norman tax collectors was revenge for
his first death? Would Kenny have thought like that?
3)Is part of Kenny's resentment toward Duncan in this episode jealousy
over Duncan being Amanda's lover?
4) Why did Kenny think that Amanda could take Duncan's head? Aside
from the attachment that Amanda feels toward Duncan, why would Kenny
imagine that Amanda is better than Duncan with a sword? Does Kenny
see Amanda realistically?
5)In Kenny's last scene, did Kenny expect to take Amanda's head after
he took Duncan's, or did he expect to become Amanda's lover?
Kenny kissing Amanda in his last scene was very creepy.
