re soaking shoes and wearing them until they dry-- I like this
suggestion, Jette.  But my roommate, who has the apartment lease, has
a very strong rule about wearing shoes in the house. They're not
allowed indoors if they're dry, let alone if they're wet. She's part-
Okinawan and follows Japanese custom in that area.  So if I did that,
I'd have to spend the entire day elsewhere.  I'll see if I can manage
that.
