No, I mean, of the M42s :) Of those previously manufactured, were there
any
that *did* have the decals struck after the order, or was it only new
manufacture? (although I will note the rest of what you stated)
>> Yes, I have seen many helmets over the years, (collecting since 1970)
that had the decals removed by scrapping or over painting. Individual
soldiers field painted helmets in many patterns. Several which are
recognized styles are Africa, Russian front, Normandy, etc. By the time of
the Battle of the Bulge, helmet cammo covers where much more prevalent and
served the function of covering up the decals.
This reminds me. There was a firehelmet seen in a few episodes (such as
the
one where Carter comes as the local fire chief to investigate
Hochstetter's
improvised office in the cooler) -- legit and/or refurbished, replica,
or
totally hooey? I don't have the episode number handy, though.
>>My recollection is that this was either a French or British fire helmet.
The Germans did not use any head gear with large brass protrusions or
plumes during WW2, (remember, Hitler was a commoner that hated all the
pompt and cir***stance of the Prussian and Noble Class and avoided
anything that smacked of priviledge or social position). Although hitler
had a grudging respect for these people, being of the old upper crust was
not an advantage in nazi germany.
