I can't speak for the Paramount issue, but studios WILL do things
differently.
I got the first 3 volumes of Season One of Hogan's Heroes back when
Columbia House first offered the title, and the prints rate among the
finest in my entire DVD library.
Yeah, they're highway robbery (don't let the 1 cent offers fool you),
and their phones have fallen prey to overseas tongues (assuming you can
get a call through to a live one), but you can never go wrong with
Columbia House products. I know from experience. It's expensive, but
you get what you pay for.
And incidentally, their Perry Mason prints were better too. Paramount
did a nice job with it recent release of Volume 1, but the 2-episode
Columbia House prints were much finer. The discs feel more substantial
in your hands too, which proves a right-way and a cheap-way to deal in
these things without the consumer ever knowing, and that's what I
loathe about this digital racket.
