Gone With the Wind

by Walloon <walloon@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sep 28, 2007 at 03:31 AM

Hello - my first post to this group.

As many of you probably know, "Hogan's Heroes" was filmed on the same
studio backlot on which "Gone With the Wind" was filmed in 1939. This
surveyor's map from 1940 shows where the Tara, Atlanta Depot, and
Peachtree Street sets stood on the RKO-Path=E9 "Forty Acres" backlot
that Selznick International Pictures was renting:

Contrast that with this 1965 aerial photo of the same lot, now owned
by Desilu:

The Tara mansion was sold and dismantled in 1959, and a few years
later the Stalag 13 outdoor set was built where Tara had stood.

My question: what is that dark structure at the lower end of Stalag 13
in the 1965 photo? It looks like it might be the back (unfinished)
side of a set fa=E7ade. It's standing almost exactly where Tara formerly
stood.
