I was in Rome, Italy for a few days last year while on the way to the
UK for a more permanent stay.
Most people would be chewing at the bit to start sight seeing in this
fascinating, crazy, big city.
Ahh plenty of time to conquer Rome, I thought, as I looked out over
the place from my hotel window. So what do I do - I raid the mini
Bar for a bottle of Italy's finest beer (even though it was only 10am
-heck it's 7pm in oz I though) and put the tele on of course.
Wow, I though Aussie TV was bad. The Italian beer wasn't much better.
The wine is a different story though.
I Flicked through the 30 odd FTA channels (most of which were tacky
info commercials, much like our day-time tele) and found...you guessed
it...Home & Away on. The ep was so old Marilyn (pre marriage to Don)
was a main character - so I'm guessing it was 10+ years ago.
They had it dubbed in Italian, which was quite strange as they only
had 1 female & 1 male voice for each character of each
sex. I must say, Irene sounded aloooot sexier with an Italian accent
:-o
Basically, Irene had the same voice has Sally etc.
I wonder how they dubbed ALF'S sayings like "stone the crows" etc.
The only Italian I speak is Bonjorno & fungu, so I had no idea what
they were saying. It's funny though, after you watch their tele for a
while you seem to pick up some words quite quickly. I guess alot their
words we use in the english language anway - alfresco, pizzeria etc.
It's a beautiful sounding language. Being in Asia previous to Rome,
the Italian language was welcomed.
After watching H&A I flicked the channels trying to find some more
Australian classic dramas like prisoner etc. I would love to hear B
speaka Italian. They would probably use a male voice for her :-0
No luck, but I did come across Bold & the Beautiful. Good old Ridge,
was not so old, the episode also being very old.
After seeing the eye opener that is Rome. (I won't ever complain about
aussie drivers again) I got to the UK and was shocked to see the same
H&A episode is played twice during the day. The whole 5 eps are also
replayed, almost ad-free, on a Sat morning. Talk about over-kill. I
guess they have a much larger population to please.
They were about 3 months behind us, which was annoying as I had to re
watch 3 months of eps to catch up to oz, and then
on return to oz I missed 3 months. Oh well.
Neighbours was only about 2-3 weeks behind from what I could gather.
It was funny in the arvo sometimes I would be shopping in Tescos
(there coles) and I would sometimes overhear chicks say to each other
in a thick Scottish accent "feck we better gut 'ome, ome and away is
about to starrrrt".
Has anyone else experienced H&A or any other aussie shows overseas?
