I notice that, in the particularly weak episodes of the final season,
the nominal producer in the opening credits is David Simon, author of
the original book Homicide: a Year on the Killing Streets. Are we to
conclude that NBC (now the official producrion company) put him "in
charge" because he was not a producer per se, and that he would be so
enthralled with seeing himself so highly placed that he would just
rubber-stamp any crazy story line NBC suggested?
Y'know, for comparison, Michael Crichton was once a great writer, who
would never have put his name on half the garbage that he does now.
