I'll certainly agree that "Forgive Us Our Trespasses" is slipshod. I'm
also going to go out on a limb and say that the bulk of Season 7, as a
whole, isn't much better, either. There were very few bright spots of
note. (The third and final crossover with Law & Order, in my opinion,
is one of them.)
There are a litany of sins that could be invoked here. (The Internet
Killer, Bayliss' Buddhism kick, Sheppard's beatdown, etc. are the most
notable here. You could probably find some more on your own.) What
also did not help was NBC's lack of support for the show. That leads
me to the next question: How can you produce for a show that the
network wouldn't stand behind?
In the show's defence, Homicide at it's worst made for better
programming than most of what was on television at the time at it's
absolute best.
