If it's Luther Mahoney's release from custody the other day, don't make
any long-term plans to help him celebrate: "pop" goes that weasel.

Now and then you have to root a little for the suspect: in a lot of
these shows you never __really__ know if he or she is guilty anyway,
you're just riding along on the cops' and prosecutors' conviction to
convict.
In the first seasons of the original Law & Order, Ben Stone (Michael
Moriarty) seemed to develop some incredibly capricious excuses to
indict: the one where the mother was mourning her daughter and Stone
indicted her for murder because the daughter's death had to do with her
involvement in ****, and the mother got her into ****, seemed especially
convoluted. Stone's personality flaws made the show interesting, but it
was refre****ng when now and then the jury put him back in his place.
I don't think we're supposed to assume that convicting suspects is right
just because the lead characters on the show want it that way.
