That is a great line and episode!  I really thought that was a hoot. 
Two reasons come to mind:  myself being a former telephone operator 
(looong time ago) and the fact that the house I bought several years ago 
and still live in was once my uncle and aunt's home.  When they moved 
in, in 1954, all residents in this former suburb, had 8-party lines! 
Unbelieveable.

I remember when my mom had 1-party line until 1951 when an additional 
A4A machine was added (major telephone equipment for a city).  Then 
could get a private line.

Thanks.  I won't be posting much here until after our company leaves on 
Sept. 1st.
