Or was that one of God's little jokes? The "avataras" come from the Hindu
religion, numbering an agreed upon ten, only appear to save humanity from
some great peril, and include animals (which has not happened yet, or we
haven't been told it has happened). The idea has been adapted by computer
programmers as an image that represents a person in a virtual reality
environment, however unsophisticated.
The JoA God does not appear to be strictly the Judeo-Christian God, but he
is closer to that than to the Hindu concept (although, half-way into the
story, the emphasis on the search for truth rather than the finding of it
suggested the screenwriter may have eastern leanings). It could have been
a
wry dig at the eastern godhead concept, or it could have been that the
screenwriter is a gamer.
It will be interesting to see if the word is used again, or is just a
passing wink.

Yeah. Who wants to hug just flesh covered skeletons? Mangia, baby!
