Today's lesson, it's what you do that's important, not how others perceive
you.
For the first time in a very long time, every story thread connected to
Joan's mission from God.
Joan went two out of three at the house painting, but maybe DeNunzio also
got a positive ripple that we didn't get to see.
I like Bonnie. Just sayin'
I also liked God explicitly telling Joan what we've known from the series
premiere, that Joan won't always see the positive effects of her actions,
and has to take it on faith that they're there when God says they are. In
early season one, Joan always got to see some positive effect, even when
she didn't get to see all of them. And the one time that it wasn't there
for her to see (Uncertainty Principle) God explained it to her. Joan's
been doing God's work for two years now, God is taking her faith to a new
level.
That said, and while it's true that what you do and what you know about
what you do, is more important than other people's reactions, some
occasional positive feedback should still occur.
To map it out
God arranges for Joan to get community service
Because Joan is doing community service,
Luke covers for her at the bookstore and gets a good insight into what he
should be considering as important
Adam discovers Bonnie's artwork and steers her to Helen
Helen gets reinforcement that her teaching is worthwhile
Lilly runs in to Kevin, literally, and gets a chance to break her own
cycle of bitterness
Price gets his car egged (one of the most positive ripples)

(after God showed her just a little of his omnipresent brain)
