After following the various discussion threads, I have my own thought
on where Joan Of Arcadia could constructively go from here. It may be
too late, in that maybe the show will be cancelled; and if not, maybe
the third season production is already in progress. But for what it's
worth....
Maybe the next time God approaches Joan with a mission, it's time for
her to say that she realized that she can affect things in the world,
and now she's decided to exercise her free will and come up with her
own missions. I could see this being played out initially with the
"major" Gods -- Cute Boy, Little Girl, and Mrs. Laningham God. I'm
not sure exactly what God would say in reply, except maybe to offer
hints on how she might fine tune her mission, or just ask her
questions for her to think about in terms of why she is pursuing her
missions, and what the consequences might be.
Anyway, it would show a Joan who is maturing into understanding that
she does play a real role in the scheme of things. Of course, part of
the thread could be that she massively bungles things for the first
half of the new season, and only slowly starts to realize how to
really make changes effectively. (Sort of like a young doctor or
social worker having no clue what they are really doing....)
