I don't think it's ever been stated in JofA that Joan is the only one 
affected. It being an American show that plays in a mythical town
somewhere in 
the US doesn't mean that Hilde somewhere in the Ruhr Valley or Jeanette in

Besancons isn't engaged in earnest conversation with a deity as well.
