The first chapter talks about the "sons of god" getting together and 
mentions that Satan was there as well and god has a conversation with 
Satan and places a bet with him. The point is, there is no mention of 
being Satan being an angel.

The primary source for the explanation that the devil is a fallen angel 
is John Milton's "Paradise Lost" - which, strictly speaking, is not 
canonical.

The only other comment I'll make is that the word translated into 
English as "angel" is a Greek word which was used as an attempt to 
translate a Hebrew word from the Masoretic text. Since the Masoretic 
compilation was not assembled until about 600B.C. we have to accept that 
the original form was not written in Hebrew, so the Hebrew is based on a 
translation of some other language. Also, since we have no empirical 
exemplar that can be used to identify an angel, then we really don't 
know what an angel is in the first place.

Geez, I hate having to explain religious things to religious people when 
I'm not a religious person myself.
