you make some good points
US TV, and fans thereof, is enamored with some ideas
1. characters must 'grow'
2. questions must be answered
3. Arcs are required to be a 'good' series
4....and some others
there are many examples of excellent, sophisticated, dramatic works
that only ask questions, that don't show character progress, but do tell
a story very well, and toss in some valuable insights to boot
